Restore your parenting confidence and transform your child’s behaviour through the relational approach
Has your child thrown you a curveball, leaving you feeling lost and overwhelmed?
Perhaps your child is struggling with anxieties related to a major life transition, like starting school or adapting to a new setting, resulting in challenging behaviours you’ve never encountered before.
Don’t worry, you’re not the only one facing this challenge and I can assure you, there is a way to solve it.
Sometimes, all you need is a guiding hand, a listening ear and expert advice from someone who appreciates what you’re going through to restore your family’s peace and your confidence as a parent. You need positive parenting.
The good news is, you’re in the right place to discover the solution.
A one hour parent coaching session to build on the foundations you are confident with and now need a deeper level of understanding about your child’s emotional needs.
You want to give something a go which is positive and gives you strength. You are looking for support from someone who understands the challenges of dealing with anxieties in children and the subsequent disruptive behaviours.
Someone who has been there before and seen positive results.
The Relational Approach
Parenting styles are based on how you were parented and how your emotional needs were met as a child. Growing up in the 70s, 80s and 90s, the focus was on the behavioural approach style of parenting which focused on rewards and sanctions; being ‘good’ or ‘naughty’.
Now we look towards a positive style of parenting, a style which focuses on a deeper connection with your child and sees opportunities to learn and grow together rather than to sanction and punish. Welcome to the Relational Approach.
With 18 years working in education…. and as a parent to three children, I know a thing or two about how to positively transform connections and emotional wellbeing with children.
My preferred approach that’s been tried, tested and exceptionally successful, is the Relational Approach.
Can you remember your favourite teacher? What was it about them? What did they do that mattered to you? If you have these fond memories, you are lucky. A child needs a secure attachment with an adult to thrive and grow; the core principle of the relational approach.
In other words, we are more likely to conform with someone who we have a relationship with; someone who we can connect to.
Connection before correction.
The Relational Approach seeks to connect and empower rather than to control and demand. Boundaries are important in parenting and these are used through guiding and working with your child. The approach and language used to have these boundaries in place matter as well as unconditional love. It is about working with your child and using restorative practices to learn how to make the right choices and to understand how to learn from these to develop emotional resilience.
Behaviour is now seen as communication; communicating an unmet need. Let me help you to understand the needs being communicated and to lessen the stress and the overload of parenting.
